My Story

I know what it’s like to suffer silently with hormone and health problems.

I have lived with painful and irregular menstrual cycles, constant bloating, IBS, cystic acne, debilitating fatigue, anxiety, mood swings, and recurrent UTIs. I’m forever grateful that I’ve been able to heal, and now I’m thrilled that I get to help you.

From a young age I felt unwell. As a child, my father took me to the doctor for tummy aches. The nurse cuffed my ears and asked him, “Do you think she’s faking it?”. Even then, my body was telling me something was off, but because my healthcare practitioners didn’t seem to believe me or know what to do, I just tried to ignore it.

By the time I got to menarche, things were worse. I had terrible period pain, painful cystic acne, and anxiety. Along with many women of my generation, I was put on birth control in my early teens to control the symptoms and given daily antibiotics for my acne, both of which made my anxiety and digestive problems worse.

My teens and twenties were a challenge with ongoing health struggles, intense daily fatigue, and a tendency towards overachieving and perfectionism which added to a constant state of stress.

Unfortunately, in my experience, conventional medical interventions only seemed to make things worse.

So, I began to rely more on natural interventions. At 16, I started studying nutrition and doing yoga, and because those were the only things that provided me with some sense of relief and control, I continued down that path.

In my last year of undergraduate studies, I was interning at a sports medicine clinic when my supervisor recommended acupuncture for my ongoing health struggles. At the time, I could only afford the student clinic, but I left feeling amazed by the level of insight the student practitioner had. It was the best care I’d received up to that point, and at that moment, I realized this kind of care was what I was meant to both receive and to give. So, I moved to San Francisco to study East Asian Medicine.

After becoming licensed, I worked in clinics in SF helping hundreds of women improve their health and fertility.

Although Chinese Medicine is fabulous for hormone and reproductive issues, I was deeply curious about further knowledge and modalities that provided people with the best results. I began studying functional medicine and took other natural medicine courses while continuing to improve my East Asian Medicine knowledge.

Throughout my studies and experiences helping people, I realized the irony of how complex and simple healing can be.

Supplements and acupuncture won’t make up for poor lifestyle choices or unsupported trauma. I saw the clients who took a proactive part in their health were the ones who got the results they were looking for. And that is where the dream of Root Care began: I wanted to build a program that gave people integrated health and lifestyle tools to generate real healing results.

Now I help women and people with ovaries care for the root of their wellness, understand the bigger picture of their health, advocate for themselves within the healthcare system, and move through roadblocks with their own self-care. It is my greatest honor to help my clients understand their personal power and the power of their bodies to heal.
